![]() When a calibrated amount of vacuum is achieved in the evaporative system, the diaphragm is pulled inward, pushing on the spring and closing the contacts. 5 inches of water, the large check valve unseats and pressure vents to the fresh air filter.Ĭonversely, when the system cools and the resulting vacuum lifts the small check valve from its seat and allows fresh air to enter the system and relieve the vacuum condition. The weighted check valves are contained within the ESIM housing.ĭuring refueling, pressure is built up in the evaporative system. The small weight check valve seals for vacuum. The large weight check valve seals for pressure. A seal is attached at the end of each weighted check valve. There is one large weight and one small weight check valve in the ESIM assembly. The ESIM assembly consists of a housing, a small weight and a large weight that serve as check valves, a diaphragm, a switch and a cover. When the ESIM is installed vertically, the electrical connector is in the 3 o'clock position. On vehicles where the canister is mounted on an angle, the ESIM requires an adaptor to maintain a vertical position. ![]() It is critical that the ESIM is mounted vertically. The ESIM mounts directly to the canister, eliminating the need for a mounting bracket. However, the design of the ESIM has been simplified and unlike the NVLD the ESIM does not require a solenoid. The Evaporative System Integrity Monitor (ESIM) is very similar to the Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) system. I was pulling vacuum at about 1-2 inhg with a hand mityvac pump any more than that and my hand was in too much pain to keep going lmao. I put electrical tape over the vent side of the esim and the system held vacuum and no visible smoke but would never go into closed mode. Every thing I've read on purge valves is that it's suppose to be tested only on the intake side which it did hold vacuum there. Is this a bad esim? The codes were pending small leak, gas cap, and general evap failure. I then pulled a vacuum at the same spot and it never held I couldn't get the esim to close. I put smoke in at the line going to the gas tank under the hood at the purge valve and smoke came out of the vent to air port of the esim. I pulled vacuum on the fuel vapor side of the purge solenoid and it won't hold vacuum but it does hold vacuum on the red side that plugs into the intake manifold. I pulled vacuum at the esim and it very very slowly lost vacuum. I put smoke in at the esim and no visible smoke anywhere. I think I've narrowed it down to two things. I've been trying to chase down this small evap leak.
